China Bans Booth Babes, Preventing Sexy Time At Game Conventions

published: 2011-07-29 13:20:02
It looks like Communism follows in the footsteps of Capitalism this time around. China has declared a ban on scantily clad “Booth Babes” at their ChinaJoy Expo because the whole thing was verging on being a “vulgarity” show. Quite naturally, male attendees were pissed.

According to Reuters [via Digital Trends], the ban prohibits “booth babes” from showing two-thirds of their backs and they cannot display logos on sensitive areas of the body such as the boobies or buttocks, which is the place just about all male attendees are looking at while enjoying most conventions. I guess a lot of companies are going to lose a lot of money placing those logos on places most males won’t be looking at…like the arms, stomach or face.

Anyway, this trend of banning booth babes follows on the heels of the 2006 regulation issued by the E3 committee who began laying $5,000 fines on any publisher or exhibitor who used fap-bait to promote a product. But let’s be honest, half the appeal of being on any convention show-floor is just for the floor models. Otherwise, what’s the point of even going? You may as well sit back and watch Geoff Keighley’s face on your browser all day long as he jabbers about the games you won’t be playing until the following year anyway.

Well, the “Spicy Girls” or “Booth Babes” won’t be as prominent in China game conventions anymore unless exhibitors are willing to also follow in the footsteps of their capitalistic brothers and keep showing skin at the cost of a hefty fine…or possibly, execution.

You can check out the entire story on the “Booth Babes” ban, or rather, dress code regulation, by hitting up Reuters.
