Chopper I And The Next Space Become PlayStation Minis Today

Retro gamers with a love for 80's era arcade hits have a couple of things to get excited about today as SNK Playmore announces the impending release of its next two pre-Neo Geo titles, Chopper I and The Next Space. And by “impending,” I mean both of these games are releasing as PlayStation Minis with the weekly store update sometime today.

SNK Playmore has made something of a name for itself over these past few years as it's ported dozens of Neo Geo classics and arcade hits to modern consoles. Now Chopper I and The Next Space will join the likes of Guerrilla War, Vanguard and the early Metal Slug games.

Chopper I is a vertically scrolling shooter, on of the more popular genres way back in the day. This time around, players control the game's namesake as they fly around the jungle destroying enemy tanks, boats and attacking soldiers.

The Next Space takes that formula into the stars, offering another vertically scrolling shmup with speed and weapon pick-ups and a boatload of alien craft to destroy in order to return peace to the galaxy.

If you feel the need to relive the glory days of the arcade, or are so young that you have no idea what an “arcade” is and want to experience a piece of history for yourself, both Chopper I and The Next Space will be available for $2.99 apiece when the PlayStation Network updates later today. Being PlayStation Minis, these games can be played on either your PS3 or PlayStation Portable/Vita.
