Procedural Inc announced today that CityEngine 2009.2 has been announced with new features and functionality. So why is this important for gamers to know? Well, you might be seeing this technology put to use in upcoming games, including Blizzard’s unannounced new MMO.

According to the press release the technology is being used by the likes of Foster+Partners, Microsoft, Navteq, Boeing, IBM, Thales, Blizzard and Square Enix. Pascal Mueller, CEO Procedural Inc commented in the press release, saying…
“CityEngine 2009.2 introduces significant improvements in performance and overall stability"... "Furthermore, with the integration of map projection standards and corresponding accuracy enhancements, the CityEngine is now, together with its unique reporting functionality, the perfect tool for sustainable urban planning such as accurate simulation and evaluation of new city developments."

In a way, this kind of gives away what sort of themes we could be seeing in upcoming games published by the formerly mentioned software companies. Nevertheless, if you happen to be a developer keen on making your own game with a snazzy city-themed aesthetic, or you just need software to whip up a Rome look-alike on the fly, then this might be the way to go. A free 30-day trial is available at the Official Website.

You can check out a few of the new features for the CityEngine 2009.2 below. For more gaming industry news, updates, info and insight, be sure to stay tuned in with Blend Games.
