Crysis 2 managed to beat out FPS heavyweights Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 in one way: piracy. It seems Crysis 2 was the most pirated game of the 2011 with over 3.9 million copies downloaded illegally.

TorrentFreak, who compiled the list of most pirated games, notes that Crysis 2 was leaked to torrents over a month before its March release. However, this only accounted for a small fraction of the total. Piracy spiked after the game's actual release.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 managed to top the list for Wii games, in spite of being released in May 2010. Probably not the sort of longevity Nintendo hopes for. Galaxy 2 is the only game on the list that wasn't released in 2011.
