Crysis 3 Nearly 10 Minutes Of In-Game Footage Released

The closed door presentation of Crysis 3 is now out and about for public viewing. The futuristic, sci-fi first-person shooter, running on the CryEngine 3, looks really good in the demo and the near 10 minutes of in-game footage gives gamers a nice look at what they can expect from Crytek's upcoming triple-A shooter.

Now, first of all what you're about to see is pre-alpha and there's still a lot of tweaking and modifying to be done. Secondly, the game is not groundbreaking so don't go in expecting Crysis 1 “wow” factors...the game looks good for what it is but it still has to run on the aging Xbox 360 and PS3. So you can tell that there are technical ceilings in place.

Thirdly, the semi-open environments are a heck of a lot better than the typical, linear corridor shooters presented in most games. The ability to move and debilitate foes based on scouting and stalking is nice and I'm glad they kept that from the first two games.

It was hard to get a good grasp on the weapon functionality, but that one bullet-hoser at the 6:40 mark was intense. I wish he would have fired without the scope a bit more just so we could have seen how the weapon just wrecks havoc on everything in its path. Still, the minor environmental destruction and the fact that there's some sort of reaction to different weapons easily gives the game an extra sense of weight to the shooting mechanics, and that's very important in a shooting game.

While Crysis 2 scored well in the reviews it didn't do quite as well commercially, with more copies being pirated than than copies sold. The PC community was especially displeased with the poor port they received and it didn't bode well for Crytek at first. They're hoping to regain their standing with the PC crowd by promising a non-gimped port this time around, and I'm curious how that's going to work given that PC hardware and console hardware are now two worlds apart. Could it be that the console crowd could get the gimped-port this time around?

Well, if you enjoyed the video demo and you can't wait for the game, too bad because you'll have to wait anyway. The game isn't set for release until February, 2013...so you have a ways. To learn more about Crysis 3 be sure to pay a visit to the Official Website.
