Gamers looking to get their hands a little dirty with the dealings of Death, his scythe and a little thing known as the apocalypse can do so right now for either home consoles or PC. THQ and Vigil Games' Darksiders II has officially been released today across retailers and digital distribution services in North America.
For those of you with a Steam account, you can start downloading the game at this very moment and for those of you with an Xbox 360 or PS3 you can wait outside your local GameStop in the wee-bits of the early mornings to grab a copy once they flip the sign to “Open”.
Despite THQ's rocky financial difficulties earlier this year, the company managed to maintain most of their high-profile franchises and even managed to recover enough to announce additional sequels for established brands. For now, though, the company is probably hoping for some good Metacritic scores, positive feedback on the launch trailer and lots of “GOTY” comments being thrown around in forum boards and chat rooms for the recently released Darksiders II.
I'm curious how well the game will do in first-week sales considering that it's facing off against stiff competition from Square Enix and United Front Games' Sleeping Dogs. Nevertheless, the general consensus amongst peers is that Darksiders II offers up tons of replayability due to its RPG nature, lots of enjoyable content, a lengthy story and satisfying enough combat to keep even the most violent-hungry gamers coming back for more.
Of course, there's no real telling whether the game is worth picking up at full retail until you've either watched enough gameplay footage, read enough reviews or rented the crap out of the game. We'll be sure to have our own review up of Darksiders II soon enough, but in the meantime you can check out the official launch trailer for the game below.
You can pick up Darksiders II right now for the Xbox 360 and PS3 for $59.99 or $49.99 for PC. A season pass is also available for those of you planning on filling up on some post-launch DLC, assuming you're still rocking on the DLC party train. For everyone else, you can learn more about the game by paying a very kind visit to the Official Darksiders II Website.
