David Jaffe Might Make A Shooter
Twisted Metal and God of War director David Jaffe hasn't officially announced his next game yet. However, in a new interview he indicated that he might try his hand at a first-person shooter.
"I love the genre, but I feel it has been allowed to go a little -- well, actually, quite a lot -- stale when it comes to moment to moment mechanics," Jaffe said in a chat with IGN regarding shooters. He added that shooters have added that enemy encounters are still very similar in these games. The introduction of role-playing elements into the genre hasn't addressed that problem.
Jaffe left Eat Sleep Play earlier this year after creating a new Twisted Metal for PS3. He's creating a new studio in San Diego. He's narrowed down the 30 ideas for the company's first project down to two. One of these two sounds a whole lot like a shooter.
"There is a gun in [one of the games]," said Jaffe. "And you hold it. And all the things that I can sit here and passionately discuss and preach to you are absolutely things that I'm thinking about doing if it turns out the game we're thinking about doing gets made next involves a gun and a person holding a gun."
After announcing his new studio, he indicated that he's looking at browser-based games. He added in the new interview that he's still enthusiastic about browser gaming and how accessible it is, but noted that he still hasn't decided anything yet.
