Dead Pixels Invades Steam Today

I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but zombies are still a pretty big deal in the world of video games. For whatever reason, we just can’t get enough of blowing the shambling buggers to pieces and, in CSR-Studios’ Dead Pixels, you get to do exactly that in glorious 8-bit style. And later today, you Steam gamers will get the opportunity to join in on the fun as Dead Pixels finally launches on Valve’s gaming service.

It’s not like a retro game about shooting zombies really needs a story, but CSR decided to throw one in for good measure. In Dead Pixels a toxic waste spill has found its way into New Hexington’s drinking water, somehow causing the dead to rise from their grave. As one of the few survivors of this nightmarish event, you’ll loot homes, raid stores and trade with your fellow un-undead travelers to stock up supplies as you make a mad, blood-filled dash to get out of the city. Roll that grindhouse goodness…

Dead Pixels first launched on XBLA back in 2011 and finally made its way to PC in May of this year. Now it’s headed to Steam and will launch today at 6 p.m. GMT for $2.99. CSR encourages current PC owners to be patient, as a method for turning your PC copy of the game into the enhanced Steam version of the game will be revealed sometime following the launch.

Along with the 100-plus weapons, three play modes, four difficulty levels and co-op action of the regular game, the Steam version of Dead Pixels will also feature 30 Steam Achievements, online leaderboards, extra modes and a reworked “Developer’s Cut” of the Last Stand game mode.
