Defiance Video Covers Vehicles, PvP, Open-Worlds, Class-Free Gameplay
A new developer diary has surfaced for the upcoming Trion Worlds game, Defiance. The game is based on the TV show of the same name which is set to air on the Syfy channel during the 2013 season. While I have zero hope that the show will be any good, the game appears to contain a few noteworthy features, including open-world gameplay, class-free customization and lots of cool vehicles.
According to Electronic Theatre, one of the gimmicks of the show is that what happens in the game can affect the show and what happens in the show will affect the game.
The developer diary focuses on the game's overall appeal-factors: open-worlds, character customization, weapon customization, vehicle customization and non-instance worlds with massive boss battles to boot. Nice. Check it out below.
The game looks a lot like PlanetSide 2 fused with Firefall. That's not a bad combination at all. My only worry is the fact that it's attached to a Syfy TV show, and most LP-based video games never turn out well except for the few rare occasions like Rocksteady's Batman games.
I'm also curious exactly what engine this is running on because it's obviously not the Unreal or CryEngine, but it looks awfully snazzy. For Trion's previous MMO outing, Rift, it kind of bounced around on a few engines before ending up on the GameBryo (including the Hero Engine, which still has a bad rep to this day). So I guess we'll just have to wait and see with Defiance.
The game is set for release in 2013 and I'm sure we'll see and hear a lot more about Trion's MMO in the coming months. For more info and videos feel free to visit the Official Website.
