Diablo 3 Reaper Of Souls Collector's Edition

Blizzard announced in December that they would release two Collector's Editions of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. Today they revealed what these bundles and their exclusive extras will look like.

The $79.99 Collector's Edition (full-sized image in the gallery below) comes inside a special case emblazoned with Malthael, the villain of the expansion pack. The box is larger than the standard edition package so they can fit in a few extra goodies.

The official Reaper of Souls artbook is the largest item inside. This hardcover book's visuals range from preliminary sketches to full 3D renders from the development. Certain images can be viewed on iOS and Android devices using a special viewer app.

You'll find a whole mess of extra discs inside the Collector's Edition as well. The behind-the-scenes Blu-ray/DVD pack gives you insight into Reaper of Souls' creation with interviews, roundtable discussions and commentary from the team at Blizzard. The soundtrack CD includes the full musical score from the action RPG.

If you think Malthael's grim reaper look is a bit trite, too bad. The last item in the bundle is a mousepad featuring the same picture as the box.

Collector's Edition owners are also entitled to several in-game items. For Diablo 3, you'll get a spectral hound pet to accompany you through Sanctuary. You'll also receive several helm and weapon skins to replace your existing equipment's appearance. WoW players will unlock a Treasure Goblin pet for all current and future characters. Three portrait decals - male and female Crusaders, Malthael - will give StarCraft 2 players some new cosmetic options.

If you're only interested in the game items, the Digital Deluxe Edition is a better bet. Though it doesn't come in a cool box, this download-only version is $20 cheaper than the Collector's Edition. Or you can save even more money by getting the $39.99 standard edition with no frills.

Reaper of Souls introduces Act V to the campaign. This new chapter takes place in Westmarch, a kingdom that's been invaded by an army of undead. Players will also have access to a new Crusader class, a warrior that uses his or her shield and holy magic to smite foes.

The Reaper closed beta launched last month. The test includes nearly all the expansion's content, however, so Blizzard's keeping it small. There's a good chance that you won't get in even if you opted in.

Reaper will launch worldwide in March. If you pre-purchase the game through the Battle.net shop, you'll be able to preload the files prior to release.
