Sony has announced a pair of artsy and slightly bizarre games from HumaNature Studios and Sony Santa Monica, both headed to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Introducing: Doki-Doki Universe and Hohokum.

First up is Doki-Doki Universe, a working title that we can only hope sticks around for the final release. A HumaNature Studios offering, Founder Greg Johnson recently made the game's existence known through the PlayStation Blog. If Johnson's name sounds familiar, it could be because he's the dude for a little game called Toejam and Earl.

“Our admittedly lofty goal is to create new and original game experiences that reach out to people looking for more humanity in their games,” Johnson said. “We love interactive stories, emotional expression and self discovery. We're not so big on shooting things.”

That may help explain Doki-Doki Universe's adorable child's drawing/coloring book look. Johnson goes on to explain that Doki-Doki is “hard to explain,” because it's being used as a sort of group name for a collection of products releasing at the same time. A free version of the game will be available on launch day that will let you explore some of the game's universe. A purchase will let you start landing on planets, where your robot character will learn about becoming more human. There's no release date set yet, but Johnson said he and his studio would rather players experience the game than describe it to death.

And then there's Hohokum, another PS4/PS3/Vita game, this one heading to consoles sometime in 2014. A collaboration between co-creator Richard Hogg and the developers at Honeyslug, this is another colorful title with a hard focus on “playful exploration and creativity.”

Also announced through the PlayStation Blog, Hohokum has you playing as a flying snake creature with the sole purpose of making new discoveries and uncovering secrets.

“...At its heart Hohokum is a playground, a place to wander about, perhaps even lose yourself in,” Hogg said.

Two games, both bright, cheery and colorful and both more interested in the player exploring and experiencing the world rather than fail states and enemies. Look for Hohokum and Doki-Doki Universe sometime in the distant future, sadly, both coming to the , PS3 and .
