Red Thread Games will need some financial help for developing Dreamfall Chapters, the third game in The Longest Journey adventure series. Red Thread founder and Journey creator Ragnar Tørnquist says that they'll be using crowd-funding site Kickstarter.
"We will be doing a Kickstarter. Not right now, but we will be doing it in the near future, simply because although we received a grant from the Norwegian Film Institute, which was announced today, that is only for the preproduction phase," Tørnquist told RPS.
Tørnquist says that they're currently in the process of setting up Red Thread and the development team. They already have a document outlining the story of Dreamfall and beyond. However, he adds that while the core of the storyline won't change, smaller details may change as the team grows and development proceeds.
Throughout the interview, Tørnquist was careful not to divulge too many details. He did confirm that the game is being developed for the PC and Mac, although "other options" are also being explored. Also, Chapters won't be multiplayer unlike his previous game, The Secret World.
Funcom, the developers of the first two Longest Journey games, is licensing the series to Red Thread. The two companies will also be sharing revenue for the project. Furthermore, Tørnquist will serve as a creative director for Funcom's Secret World while making Chapters.
It will be awhile before we find out anything significant about Chapters. Tørnquist says that Red Thread will go "completely silent" in two weeks. They'll then return in 2013 to reveal more details.
