Far Cry 3 Survival Tips For Open-World ExplorationAuthor: William Usher

Ubisoft released a new promo trailer for Far Cry 3, the tropical, open-world action game coming out for home consoles and PC this December. The trailer does a much better job than any previous trade-event promo for the game, because for the first time Far Cry 3 looks like a strong, independent, open-world FPS with its own genre identity.
I know Far Cry 2 received quite a bit of flak for not quite following the tradition of the previous Far Cry (although, to be fair, no Far Cry game was ever really consistent save for all the spin-offs from the Xbox release) but it looks like this time the game has a combination of Far Cry Instincts with the bright, vibrant jungle atmosphere and Far Cry 2 with the highly under-utilized ecosystem. Check it out for yourself in the trailer below. I'm still having a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around the story arc. The first few trailers seemed to hint at a survival tale of a journalist trying to get away from a psychotic jungle terrorist, but this trailer here seems to focus more on some guy who is trying to turn his vacation into a Rambo-convention against the psychotic jungle terrorist. I have no idea where the game really goes from there but it looks...interesting. The ecosystem is probably the most impressive part given that it was so freaking under-utilized in Far Cry 2...seeing the tiger attack the animal in the video is like a “Hoo-rah!” moment, so it's cool that this feature was properly expanded on in the third game. Far Cry 3 is set for release in December for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The industry-standard pre-order bonuses are up for grabs if you're into that sort of stuff.
