Hype First Information On Deus Ex 3 on N4G
First Information On Deus Ex 3 A year or so after the teaser trailer debuted, some concrete data on Deus Ex 3 is finally out. The latest issue of PC Zone (via CVG) has arrived in subscribers' mailboxes and will hit newsstands on October 9th. But why not read the information right now?

As was rumored, Deus Ex 3 will be a prequel, set in 2027 (25 years before the first game). The main character is Adam Jensen, a private security officer at a biomechanical augmentation lab. Biomechanical augmentations were the precursor to the nanotechnology the player characters in the first two Deus Ex possessed. Remember Agents Navarre and Gunther, the cyborgs from the first Deus Ex? They had biomechanical augmentations.

Anyway, one day a group of black ops soldiers show up to Jensen's lab and begin slaughtering everyone. Jensen escapes (would be a crappy game if he got killed in the first ten minutes) and tries to investigate the conspiracy. The series' original writer Sheldon Pacotti has been brought on as a consultant to ensure the game is consistent with the established timeline.

In terms of gameplay, Eidos Montreal is trying to make the game accessible to new players as well as palatable to longtime DX series fans. Gone is the one ammunition type system from Deus Ex 2. Rather than utilizing a health bar, DX3 will have a Gears of War or Call of Duty-style system where you'll regenerate health as long as you're not being damaged. Stealth will be based on cover rather than shadows, which I take to mean that the enemy's line-of-sight will be more of a fact than the lighting in determing whether you're seen.

There's no RPG stats to determine your combat skill this time around, but you will be able to customize your weapons and choose from 20 different biomechanical augmentations. Among the augmentations mentioned are tentacles that shoot from your neck and allow you to make bungee jumps from ledges and enhanced strength that allows you to punch through walls to grab enemies on the other side. Both of these sound a lot better visually in third-person perspective. Will the camera pull out to third-person when these abilities are used?

The PC Zone issue will have more information and screenshots to go along with their preview so stay tuned for all that in the coming week. Oh, and someone's scanned in some of the images from the issue and put them on Flickr if you're interested.
