Today console gamers can try out the Batman multiplayer shooter Gotham City Impostors. A public beta is now live on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Xbox 360 owners who want to try the beta should go to the game's website and register for a chance at a key. Things are a bit simpler for PS3 owners. They can download it through PSN without a key.

In Impostors, players take on the role of Joker and Batman poseurs. These "Bats" and "Jokerz" gangs battle in iconic locations throughout Gotham City. They'll wield traditional weapons like guns and knives as well as over-the-top items like bear traps and freeze rays. A few examples of the game's weapons and gadgets are on display in the trailer below.

Gotham will be released on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in February. Warner Bros. has yet to announce a firm date for the game's launch, though.
