Ground Branch, A Tactical Shooter That Isn't Call Of Duty
Kickstarter has seen a huge share of games cropping up left and right for PC, Mac, iOS, Xbox 360 and PS3. These games range from old-school RPGs to new-school action titles and everything else in between.
One game that no one has been talking about, and a game that deserves a bit of attention, is called Ground Branch. It's a mix of Arma and the original Rainbow Six, but it takes advantage of today's technological advancements.
A brief gameplay walkthrough video was released featuring commentary from the lead developer at Blackfoot Studios, describing what they're doing differently with Ground Branch and how this tactical shooter is nothing like Call of Duty.
The game is currently on Kickstarter looking for a rather hefty handout. There's still time for this game to make it through, although it's looking a little thin at the moment.
The concept seems pretty cool, but all I could think about was "I wonder how DayZ would work on a game like this?" I suppose the other issue is that we have a market so full of military shooters, sci-fi shooters, military sci-fi shooters and competitive PvP shooters that it comes across as if this could be "just another shooter", even though it's really not. A lot of it depends on how some of these features are put to use, of course.
Some of the game's other highlights include a wounding system, similar to Arma II, weapon and character customization, server tools, realistic health system and even mod support.
John Sonedecker, Founder BlackFoot Studios and former original member of Red Storm Entertainment had this to say about Ground Branch...
"There are a lot of first-person shooters out there that focus on fast paced arcade game play with unrealistic damage, movement and shooting mechanics. People who like a more slow-paced, realistic and calculated experience are mostly left out by mainstream developers. To me, Ground Branch is for those people."
I guess what Act of Valor was for movie fans looking for a legit military action-movie, Ground Branch will be for those same kind of video game fans looking for a legit military action-game.
You can learn more about Ground Branch by paying a visit to the game's official Kickstarter page. Ground Breach is set for release the summer of 2013.
