PC gamers are still hoping Rockstar Games will bring Grand Theft Auto V to their platform. Their petition for a PC version of GTA 5 now has over 650,000 signatures.

The petition was created in November 2012 by Mike Julliard. The petition was a response to an interview in which Rockstar's Dan Houser said that they were considering platforms other than the Xbox 360 and PS3 for GTA 5.

"Everything else is up for consideration," Houser said at the time. "That's all I can give you. The main thing is we are notů we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be."

As Rockstar prepared to launch the game on Xbox 360 and PS3, there were signs that they were developing the game on PC as well. Retailers, employee LinkedIn profiles and even the game's iPhone app mentioned a PC version. All the while, the petition kept picking up steam. Over 225,000 gamers signed by July. The total climbed to half a million by the time GTA 5 made its console debut in September.

Many thought that Rockstar would announce a PC version after its PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts were in stores. However, no announcement was made this fall. A report in October suggested that the game would hit PC in early 2014 but again, there was no news from Rockstar.

PC gamers shouldn't lose hope, though. Rockstar has released every other game in the main GTA series on PC. It doesn't happen quickly but it happens. There's no reason to believe that GTA 5 is an exception to this rule.

I'm sure that the petition will continue to collect signatures - its goal is 1 million - but its goal has already been accomplished. Rockstar must know by now that there's a significant audience waiting for a PC version of GTA 5. If they have any intention of developing the game for that platform, they're probably already doing it.

While signing a petition makes you feel like you're making the PC version come quicker, it's up to Rockstar to set the timeline. They're going to announce and release the port when they're good and ready. All PC gamers can do is wait and try to ignore the hoaxers and trolls.
