iPhone 5 Announcement Next Week?Author: Pete Haas

Apple may be on the verge of announcing the next model of their hugely popular iPhone. They've invited various press outlets to a special event on Wednesday, September 12th.
"It's almost here," says the cryptic invitation. It then has the number 12, with a shadow forming the number "5." It seems very likely that they're teasing an iPhone 5 announcement, there.
iPhone 5 has been the subject of numerous rumors over the past year. The biggest alleged change in this model is being made to the screen. The screen is said to be thinner, allowing the device to be lighter than predecessors. Furthermore, it will be 4 inches wide, making it a sizable upgrade over the iPhone 4S's 3.5" display. I imagine many iPhone users are hoping that the iPhone 5 uses a higher wireless standard. Android devices support 4G LTE connectivity, but the latest iPhones only support 3G. The iPad 3, released last spring, supports LTE though so there's some hope of iPhone 5 doing the same. Apple's event will kick off at 10am PST (1pm EST) next Wednesday. If they do indeed announce the iPhone 5, it will probably hit stores by the end of the month. The iPhone 4S was released a week after it was unveiled. Back to top
