Tomorrow BioWare will launch the first Mass Effect 3 multiplayer event of the month. Operation Vigilance gives players the opportunity to earn a flood of in-game rewards for the action RPG.

The backstory behind this weekend's event is as follows: the Alliance has suffered a number of surprise attacks and they're now short-handed on supplies. Now's the time to conserve, in other words. Players are challenged to survive until wave 10 in a co-op match without using any consumable, such as special ammo, medi-gel, the Cobra missile launcher, or an Ops pack.

As usual, the wider player community has a goal to pursue as well. Collectively they must complete 250,000 escort missions. Escort missions, which occur three times throughout each match, were introduced in the free Earth DLC pack.

Operation Vigilance will kick off on September 7th and run until September 9th. Rewards are typically doled out on the following Tuesday. Completing the squad goal will earn you a Commendation Pack filled with a collection of in-game items. The allied goal will earn you a Victory Pack.

ME3 gets new multiplayer events every other weekend. BioWare has been hosting them since the game first launched. It's not clear how long they'll keep doing them so enjoy it while it lasts.
