To The Moon Holiday DLC Released For Free
Freebird Games has released a special DLC pack for their PC adventure game To The Moon. The free DLC is a holiday-themed "minisode" that takes place after the events of the main game.
To The Moon stars two employees of Sigmund Corp, a company that builds artificial memories for their clients. The campaign centers around Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts' toughest job yet. They have to enter the past of dying client Johnny Wyles and insert memories of a trip to the Moon.
The game was built in RPG Maker so it resembles an SNES RPG like Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger. The experience is closer to an point-and-click adventure game, though. When it was released in 2011, To The Moon was widely praised for its emotional storyline.
The "Holiday Special" episode is less serious than the main campaign. Don't expect too much out of it. You can knock it out in one sitting.
"The minisode is just about 20 minutes long, and is meant to be played front-to-end in a little marathon, as there is no save feature (or menus, for that matter)," said designer Kan Gao. "It takes place around the holiday season, at the local branch of Sigmund Corp where Eva & Neil are employed. The whole thing is pretty lighthearted (including a nod to Johnnyís story from To the Moon), so donít expect much drama. Although, it does touch on a notable aspect of their job that I avoided to show in To the Moon, as it wouldíve distracted from the main story then."
To The Moon's holiday DLC is part of the latest Steam patch for the game. You can also download it through the Freebird Games website.
Freebird is currently working on their next game, A Bird Story. Bird Story is described by Freebird as a "simple narrative taking place between the mix of a boy's memories, dream and imagination." Today Gao apologized for the numerous delays the game has suffered so far.
"To be honest, I donít really know when exactly itíll be finished...Itís not that long of a game at all, but there are things in it that Iím just still trying to figure out. Itís also something that means a lot to me personally, and I donít want to compromise how it turns out. All I can say is that a lot has been done for it already, and that it will be finished when itís ready; I will try my best. In the mean time, thank you all for your patience and understanding ó I hope you enjoy the holiday special, and the occasional snippets I post on places like the forum, Twitter, & Facebook."
If you don't own To The Moon, you can purchase it through Steam for 75% off its usual price as part of the store's holiday sale. The discount will end at 1pm Eastern on January 2nd.
