EA sent out the first gameplay trailer for NBA Live 13 today. That bit of good news was off-set by some bad news: they've decided to delay the game past its originally scheduled release window of early October.

The EA Sports blog post doesn't say why the game was delayed. They also didn't provide a new timetable for its launch. EA merely states that the game will arrive at a "later date" and more details are coming soon.

There's a lot of pressure on EA to deliver something special with NBA Live 13. They intend for it to be a reboot of the series, which hasn't seen a new game since 2009. The NBA 2K series from 2K Sports has established dominance of the genre in recent history. NBA 2K13 will actually be arriving in the first week of October, so you can see why EA would want to steer clear of that time period.

As far as the trailer goes: I guess it looks good? It's tough to give any detailed analysis of a sports sim trailer. The virtual players look reasonably close to their real-world counterparts and the basketball they're using is round. So far, so good on the realism front.
