Is Obsidian Entertainment's Next RPG Called Eternity?

Obsidian Entertainment's week-long tease for their newest role-playing game continued today. The latest clues on the countdown site talk about someone called "the Watcher."

"This world wants to drag us down, it does. It made you a Watcher," says the new text on the site. "No one asks for that. And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around my neck, you don't have to carry it one more step. You think they won't let you rest, but it's not up to them. It never was."

The source code, naturally, has an additional sentence of prose. It mentions that there is no sleep for the Watcher. That doesn't really help the sleuthing process, does it?

Fans on the Obsidian forums have noticed another interesting thing in the source code: a slowly unscrambling word. One letter of the word has been revealed each day. The code reads ".T.XXITY" today. The periods are apparently vowels and the X's are consonants. Some fans believe that the mystery word is "Eternity," perhaps the name of this game.

The mysterious texts released on the site this week point to a fantasy setting, so the game's title might not be a real word at all, though. Still, that'd be sort of unfair of Obsidian. You can't ask someone to guess a seven-letter word and then be like, "Oh no, sorry, the right answer is 'zarblax'!" That would defeat the whole purpose of this slow tease.

Whatever this new game is, Obsidian will almost certainly announce it tomorrow.
