Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced Pokemon X and Pokemon Y for the 3DS today during a video presentation called Pokemon Direct. Both of these new RPG's will be released worldwide in October.

Typically Pokemon games debut in Japan and are then slowly localized to other territories. However, X and Y will be available in Japan, Europe, the Americas and Australia in the same month. The video notes that this plan will still exclude some countries in those territories, though.

The first gameplay footage of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y reveals a few details. The game will use 3D character models rather than sprites. Players will have three new starter Pokemon to choose from, called Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. Like other paired Pokemon games, X and Y presumably have the same plot but different selections of Pokemon.

Screenshots and a trailer of the two games are below.
