A wise man once said “you’ve got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold em’, know when to walk away and know when to run.” The man was talking about the game of poker, and if his dealer had been a homicidal robot by the name of GLaDOS, his advice would have likely just been “No matter the circumstances, just run like mad!” But that’s exactly the sort of odds you’ll be facing in PlayStation Plus this week as Poker Night 2 gets added to the Instant Game Collection.
While we’ve known that Poker Night 2 would be joining the Plus lineup for a few weeks now, official word over on the PlayStation Blog is that the game will be going live this afternoon, giving gamers a chance to get in some sweet gamblin’ action with an unlikely cast of characters.
“Poker is one of the world’s most popular card games, so chances are you already know the rules of Texas Hold ‘Em and Omaha, which are the two gameplay types in Poker Night 2,” said Sony Sr. Community Specialist Kristine Steimer. “The twist in Telltale’s version is that your opponents are memorable characters from other video games and movies like Borderlands’ ever-lovable jack-ass robot, Claptrap, Ash from Army of Darkness and doggy detective Sam from the Sam & Max series.”
And, as I was saying earlier, Steimer goes on to point out that Portal’s hostess with the mostess, GLaDOS, will be shuffling the cards and dealing out your poison, all while providing plenty of insults and threats.
If all of that sounds like a blasty-blast and you haven’t bothered to fork over $10 to pick up your own copy of the game just yet, well, your patience and stinginess are being rewarded with a free copy of Poker Night 2 through PlayStation Plus this week.
Along with access to Poker Night 2, this week’s Plus update also offers discounts on a batch of Ultimate Editions (featuring games and all of their DLC), as well as multiple other games and DLC.
For starters, let’s take a look at those Ultimate Editions. Crysis 3 is being marked down to $26.94 with Dead Space 3 going for $37.44. Splinter Cell Blacklist and all of its add-on goodies can be yours for $56.69 with Resident Evil 6 marked down as low as $19.59. Finaly, the fast and furious Need for Speed: Most Wanted will set you back $36.74 for a limited time while Prototype 2 is being marked down to $37.79.
As for the additional discounts, you’re going to need to take a gander at that top link to the PS Blog for full details, as there are simply too many to list here. There’s lots of Street Fighter and Street Fighter X Tekken content available for cheap, as well as games like Okami HD for $6.99 (GET IT!), Remember Me for $13.99 and the brilliant remake, Bionic Commando Rearmed for just $3.49.
Look for all of that to go live with the regular weekly PSN update later this afternoon.
