Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation provided gamers with several 3DS announcements to get excited about, including the fact tat the fifth game in the Professor Layton series, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, will be making its way to North America in November.
Objection! No, wait, that’s the wrong game.
The Professor Layton series is famous for giving DS players a chance to solve large, overarching mysteries by first solving many, many, many smaller enigmas. This includes mixing and matching odd objects in the correct order to create a crafty device, completing perplexing math equations, recognizing patterns or thinking around corners to figure out why so-and-so’s vase broke or how something went missing from another so-and-so’s locked study. It's sort of like a handheld gamer's version of Nancy Drew except Nancy is replaced with Layton and the puzzles are a little bit more over-the-top and the realistic art-style is replaced with anime draws...well, I guess Professor Layton is nothing like Nancy Drew, but you get the picture.
This latest iteration has the top hat-wearing Prof and his young assistant, Luke, plowing through 150 new puzzles. What is the “Miracle Mask?” Well, that’s a mystery even to me. I’m guessing it’s a mask…And that it is somehow miraculous.
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask hit store shelves in Japan back in February. As announced during Nintendo Direct, it’ll hit U.S. shores this November for the 3DS.
