Starting tomorrow, PSN will begin offering special bundles of PS3 games called "Ultimate Editions." These Ultimate Editions will provide players with full games along with all of their DLC for a discounted price.
There will be nine Ultimate Editions available from the start: Red Dead Redemption, inFamous 2, BioShock 2, MotorStorm Apocalypse, Call of Duty: Black Ops, L.A. Noire, Mafia II, Just Cause 2 and Mortal Kombat. From now until June 4th, they're offering these bundles at a 30% discount. If you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber, Sony will bump up that bulk discount to 50%. It's tough to get really jazzed up about this feature for now, as all of those games are already a year or two old and I've got all of them. The deals are really targeted toward gamers who missed these titles the first time around, though. Hopefully Sony will offer Ultimate Editions earlier in a game's lifespan in the future. I like where Sony's going with Ultimate Editions. After all, it's a way for gamers to save money. In the past, "Game of the Year" editions containing a game and all of its DLC could only be bought through brick-and-mortar retailers. Furthermore, these GOTY bundles were only available for a select few games. That has to do with the cost of creating new packages for games and shipping them out to stores. A digital re-release presumably has a lot less overhead, though, so Sony can offer a lot of these Ultimate bundles. June 4th, the last day of the discount, is the day before E3. Perhaps Sony will reveal some other feature or discount to replace it. ![]() Back to top
