Ridge Racer: Unbounded Track Creation And Destruction TrailerAuthor: William Usher

Originally, I was never really a fan of Ridge Racer other than for its usually snazzy soundtrack(s) and aesthetically appealing environments. However, for the first time in the history of the series, Ridge Racer will be one of the few current-gen racers to introduce an innovative feature that many other racing games have been lacking: track, city and obstacle creation.
That’s right, Namco Bandai has introduced track creation to the long-running Ridge Racer franchise and it doesn’t just look ripe for all kinds of racing, it looks tantalizing for all the physics-based destruction that comes along with it. As you can see, Ridge Racer isn’t just aiming to be another shallow racer with a handful of tracks and mediocre racing…the whole concept of creating cities and building tracks and then sharing them online takes the game to a whole other level. How on Earth could anyone get bored with custom built tracks you can share and race on with friends? My only concern with this game is that if there isn’t enough variety or vehicle dynamics to really help get players feeling like each vehicle has its own weight and properties, then that could shortchange the rather deep track creation with some shallow racing. However, the game won’t be out until 2012 so Bug Bear Interactive has plenty of time to iron out all the kinks. For more info feel free to visit the Official Website. Ridge Racer: Unbounded is set for release next year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. |
