Activision has landed some major Hollywood talent for Call of Duty Elite. Film directors Ridley and Tony Scott have both apparently signed on to create entertainment content for the COD-centric online service.
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed the Scott brothers' involvement in Elite during the 13th Annual Pacific Crest Global Technology Leadership Forum (via USA Today). He said that Activision is creating "exclusive episodic entertainment built just for the Call of Duty community. We are working with the likes of Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, [The Office producer] Ben Silverman and Ridley and Tony Scott to create this content."
"Just like any other passion that people spend a lot of their free time doing, Call of Duty players share a common language and a common experience, and we think we can create some entertainment content that they will love and talk about and share."
Ridley Scott is the director of Alien, Gladiator and Blade Runner among others. His younger brother Tony has quite a few big films to his name as well, including Top Gun and Crimson Tide. Between the two of them, they've got plenty of experience entertaining the youngish male demographic that flocks to Call of Duty in record numbers.
Call of Duty Elite is an online hub for all things Call of Duty. In addition to providing original entertainment content, Elite lets players compete for real world and in-game prizes, analyze their performance, or simply stay in touch with friends. It's currently in beta on Xbox Live through Call of Duty: Black Ops. The service will go public with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
