Rumor: EA Resurrecting NBA Jam On Wii

Fans of the 1990's two-on-two basketball series NBA Jam may not need to hang onto that old Genesis cartridge anymore. The new rumor is that EA's about to create a new installment in the series.

ESPN reports that EA Sports acquired the rights to develop a new NBA Jam exclusively for the Wii. The game will supposedly be announced soon. The original Jam was published and developed by Midway but they're bankrupt and slowly selling off their assets. Assuming Midway still had the license to the series, EA probably managed to grab it for cheap.

After releasing a 5-on-5 NFL game and a 3-on-3 NHL game last year, a 2-on-2 NBA game seems like the logical next step for EA. NBA Live 10 wasn't released for the Wii (a break from tradition for that series) so perhaps this new NBA Jam will be their flagship basketball title on that console.

A rumor broke last week that EA was about to announce a NFL training game in the near future. That game is also said to be a Wii-exclusive. Could both rumors turn out to be true?
