Rumor: NFL Blitz Revival On The WayAuthor: Pete Haas

This holiday season, EA revived their two-on-two basketball game NBA Jam. Rumor has it they're looking to do the same to NFL Blitz, the pro football equivalent.
GiantBomb, citing an industry insider, says that EA is now beginning work on a new installment of the arcade football series. It's going to be developed by EA Tiburon. Makes sense, considering they're the guys that make the Madden and NCAA Football games. The game is still a ways away and probably won't arrive until 2012. The Blitz games were developed by Midway. They're currently liquidating all their assets, though. EA already bought the NBA Jam license from them so there's a prior relationship there. Last year EA released a game with a similar premise called Madden NFL Arcade. Why not just make more games under that name? I guess they figure Blitz will have a lot of nostalgia appeal. Plus, scooping up the Blitz license means that no other company can make games under that brand. Seems like a smart way for EA to maintain their stranglehold on the football market. |
