Ryse: Son of Rome is available for right now, exclusively for the Xbox One. The definitive launch title for Microsoft's third console outing has been met with plenty of divisive review scores, fluctuating from moderate, to low to high and everything else in between. The critical consensus is that the game just doesn't live up to the hype. Nevertheless, gamers looking for a little bit of help to get them through the tough parts of the game can relish in the opportunity to make good on a video walkthrough guide for Ryse.

The first part of the guide is just the intro and opening gameplay segment. Again, I have to tip my hat off to Crytek for getting right to the action within the first five minutes; there are no lengthy, obnoxious scenes, tutorials or video guides to sit through, opposite of trashy casual-ware like Need for Speed: Rivals.

While some games are forcing players to trudge through banal tutorials that can range from a few minutes to half-an-hour, Ryse gets right to the action, laying out the button combinations and fighting mechanics as bare as a newborn baby's bottom. There's no special treatment or alternative game mode where you're forced to go through the learning phase before actually playing the game. Props to Crytek for that.

Unfortunately, the game isn't quite as aesthetically inimitable as its launch title counterpart, Forza Motorsport 5, which uses all sorts of visually welcoming devices and on-screen prompts to make the experience as enjoyable as possible.

Personally, Ryse still looked its best with Platige's amazing Damocles trailer, which really showed up Crytek with their own game engine, by making something artistically poignant, thematically engaging and visually compelling with their rara avis approach to making Ryse seem more fun than what it actually is.

Nevertheless, there are still some mildly enjoyable moments you'll spot in throughout the walkthrough. The smooth play controls and snappy animations make it easy to pull off combos and counters, and the “This is Sparta” kickfatality at the 4:49 mark is pretty sick.

If you don't mind quick-time events and like graphics over gameplay, keep checking out the rest of the Ryse: Son of Rome video walkthrough to get a taste of what the game is like, as well as gameplay hints and info you might have missed in your original play through.
