Sega has finally pulled back the curtain on its much-teased “Model 2 collection,” -- which was the arcade equivalent to their Sega Saturn games -- revealing a brand new batch of old school classics coming to Xbox Live Arcade ad the PlayStation Network.
Sega has made a pretty nice business for itself out of bringing back some of its more well-known (and obscure) titles for generations past. Many of these games came from the Dreamcast era and, if as many people were interested in the games back then as they appear to be these days, there’s a good chance Sega would still be making consoles. Then again, maybe not. Either way, it’s nice to get HD-ified versions of beloved games on modern consoles. Joystiq is reporting that the Model 2 collection features five such games, including Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, Sonic: The Fighters, Virtua Striker and Virtual On. The names of the first three games on that list might give away the fact that they are fighting games. The fourth, Virtua Striker, might throw you for a loop, however, as it is actually a soccer game. Finally, there’s Virtual On, a badass, fast-paced mech battle game. These games are set to hit Japan sometime this year for around eight bucks a pop. No official announcement on a U.S. release has been made yet, but seeing as how pretty much every other Sega remake has hit our shores, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll be seeing these titles on the digital market sometime in 2013. And did I mention they’ll feature online multiplayer? Yeah, that’s pretty rad. Back to top
