SimCity Gets Social With New Producer Diary

SimCity Social still might not have a release date but, judging by the latest producer diary video for the upcoming Facebook title, the game looks to be coming along quite nicely.

In the video, General Manager Andrew Mo and Executive Producer Mike Pagano discuss the various types of gameplay SimCity Social will offer. It looks like all of the build-a-city features you'd expect from a SimCity game are in place but, as Mo puts it, wrapped in a more “delightful package.”

Taking a gander at the video, I'd say he's hit the nail on the head. Social looks like a classic SimCity game, but sporting more vibrant colors and a cartoony vibe. Not that that's a bad thing. SimCity can be a pretty deep game, so making it more accessible, both in mechanics and looks, is necessary for it to appeal to the standard Facebook gaming demographic.

Players will be able to build a city from the ground up, make decisions on spending and resources, and be forced to respond to fires, earthquakes and various other dilemmas facing their metropolitan paradise. You'll even be able to visit your friends' cities and leave behind gifts. If you're not in a gift-giving mood, you could always send a flock of angry birds to poop all over their city. I couldn't make something like that up. It's actually in the game.

To keep up with all the latest details and be notified when the game officially launches, be sure to head on over to the SimCity Social Facebook page.
