One of the things you probably didn't know about Sleeping Dogs is that the game is very similar to L.A. Noire in terms of having investigation missions. Players will have to interrogate individuals and gather evidence as well as play dress up just like Agent 47 in order to avoid being recognized.
I absolutely did not know anything about the game's investigation mechanic and I think it adds a much needed level of immersion to the game from the perspective of an undercover cop. You can check out the 11 minute gameplay mission below, with brief commentary provided by the game's producer.
To be honest, this game looks a heck of a lot better than I would have originally thought. I mean, let's be honest, anytime a publisher trashes a property usually it means it has piss poor quality or is far from being polished. But the thing is we're not seeing some crazy promo-trailer or neatly put together PR video with a spin on how the gameplay will be portrayed. The mission walkthroughs are straight-through gameplay and it looks really good.
Sleeping Dogs actually looks a lot like it could almost be on par to GTA IV in terms of quality and gameplay mechanics and that's an amazing feat for a studio like United Front Games.
I wasn't expecting anywhere near as much depth or gameplay continuity that many of these mission walkthrough videos are showcasing and that spells a very good thing for this potential sleeper hit. The only thing that would be funnier is if this game manages to sell enough for Square Enix to post profits based on its returns. Activision would deserve a good media lambasting if that happened.
Anyway, Sleeping Dogs is set for release on August 14th for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. You can pre-order the game right now or learn more by paying a visit to the Official Website.
