SMITE Adds Freya, Queen Of The Valkyries

Hi-Rez Studios is adding another Nordic god to the roster of SMITE. Today they revealed that the action-strategy game will allow players to become Freya, Queen of the Valkyries.

Freya is a front-line warrior whose magical abilities boost her sword slashes. She can also cast Irradiate on her weapon to make her attacks ranged and cause slows. Her Banish spell lets her remove any enemy from the fight temporarily by hoisting them into the air.

Her ultimate ability, Discretion, is much flashier than the name suggests. Using her wings, she soars into the air and unleashes a magical barrage on enemies below. While doing this, she can't be damaged at all.

SMITE is similar to League of Legends and other MOBA games. A team of players, each controlling a hero character, tries to destroy a structure in the enemy's base while defending their own base. SMITE varies from the norm with its greater focus on action. The camera is third-person and players directly control movement rather than pointing and clicking.

Freya is the fifth Nordic god announced for the game. She's joined by Hel, Odin, Ymir and - of course - Thor.
