Softkinetic, a middleware company, has released an update for their gesture recognition software to support the latest 3D cameras and the latest tools for gesture recognition. Basically, the update provides better support for software without a controller. That’s right, Nintendo best move over, because this could potentially erase the need for a Wii-mote.
“Less than a year after the first release of iisu, we provide a significant update that offers developers increased flexibility and advanced functionalities for developing next generation gesture-based applications,” said Eric Krzeslo, CTO of Softkinetic. “The latest release of iisu will bring our technology into consumers’ homes, enabling them to control their entertainment systems simply by moving their hands.” The press release continues on to document the new interface setup and improved infrastructure for calibration and efficiency. The release states that the issu 3D Gesture Software... “also extends its support to the latest 3D depth sensing cameras available on the market, including Mesa Imaging’s Swiss Ranger SR-4000, 3DV Systems’ Zcam X, Canesta’s XR and RZ series, Prime Sense Primesensor 2.0 and others.” The technology is really kick-butt, as it was featured at GDC 2008, allowing users to generate artificial movements with real life movements, completely without a controller. The next generation of gameplay is literally upon us. You can check out more details regarding the iisu update and the technology that powers it, by visiting the Official Softkinetic Website.
