Sony Complains About E3 Leaks

Truth be told, Sony had a good E3 press conference. It could've made a bigger splash, though, if most of the stuff they were revealing hadn't already been leaked. SCEA prez Jack Tretton was a bit annoyed by that.

“People don’t respect confidentiality in this industry,” said Tretton in a talk with CNBC. “It’s tough enough to keep a secret within your own company, much less when you speak to third parties.”

What difference does it make whether the information is revealed through leaks or through official announcements? Tretton says that it leads to inflated expectations. "You have to prepare for people to know things in advance. The frustrating thing is they only know a part of the story and that opens up a lot of conjecture and misinformation that ultimately waters down the reality when you roll it out.”

Among the surprises that were spoiled prior to E3 were the new PSP Go handheld and Team ICO's third game. Having a good announcement leaked is still a lot better than having crappy announcements but Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo execs obviously get a lot of joy out of dropping bombshells on the audience.
