Soul Sacrifice, one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita, now has a U.S. release date of April 30th, as well as details on a sweet batch of pre-order bonuses for those who like to reserve their games nice and early.
Soul Sacrifice is somewhat tricky to describe. A third-person co-op game, players enter a dark fantasy world where massive monsters roam and parts of your own body can be “sacrificed” in order to perform extremely powerful magic. If you think something like Monster Hunter meets Dark Souls, you’re not too far off.
From legendary game designer Keiji Inafune (Mega Man, Onimusha) and composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Xenogears, Chrono Trigger), Soul Sacrifice is billed as a real-time combat game featuring a “thrilling sense of scale, smartly interwoven cooperative multiplayer and meaningful character customization,” by the PlayStation Blog.
Inafune said he is excited to finally announce a U.S. release date for Soul Sacrifice (Arriving in Europe on May 1), and that he is confident the team has created an engaging game.
“The game has become nothing like any other game, with an original and deep world settings which could only be possible in a dark fantasy environment,” Inafune added. “I’m looking forward to you being able to experience the unique adventure of real heroism in Soul Sacrifice. Immerse yourself in the world of Soul Sacrifice and have fun playing it.”
For those willing to claim their copy early through pre-order, the game will come packed with a few additional treat. All pre-orders will earn two unique costumes, three magic items to aid players in battle, a Spirits’ Flamepike, Blightstone and Fulgurwood, all which grant special attacks with elemental effects. None of these items will ever be sold as DLC, according to the PS Blog post, so a pre-order is the only way to snag one for yourself.
The final bit of pre-order goodness, a Japanese voice-over pack, will eventually be sold to the masses, but you’ll get it free if you reserve the game early.
Now all we have to do is wait until April 30 to start ripping out our own spines and using them as massive whips. Fun times!
