Whereas Civilization focuses on the past and the Sims games are mostly about living life in the present, Space Colony, originally released in 2003 and headed to digital retailers in a shiny new HD coat this November, takes players to *dun-dun-duuuuuun* the FUTURE!
Firefly Studios, the folks behind the Stronghold series of games, blasted off into the stars near the turn of the century with Space Colony, bringing the gaming masses a chance to colonize distant planets, build working economies and kick alien butt. Somewhere along the line the developer decided it was time to spruce up the formula and once again take their well received life simulator into the future. Enter Space Colony HD, the same game with shiny new graphics, a wider field of view to make more objectives easily visible at a glance and support for resolutions up to 2560X1600. In Space Colony HD, you are in charge of building a base on various planets spread throughout the galaxy, bolstering your resources and population, and then occasionally defending the place from alien threats. Along the way you'll need to keep the colonists happy, manage things like oxygen levels and supplies, determine which what activities on various planets will yield the best results for your colonies and bolster your defenses. You'll be able to decide between a “Military” and “Civilian” path for your worlds and, according to a statement from Firefly, thus decide if you will spend most of your time “battling indigenous life or building intergalactic golf courses insead.” No price point has been established but it is known that Space Colony HD will be hitting sites like GOG, Amazon, GetGames, etc. on Nov. 8.
