The developers of sci-fi real-time strategy game Star Ruler aren't pleased by the pending acquisition of Impulse by retail giant GameStop. Today they announced plans to remove their game from the digital game shop.
"We are ending sales through Impulse due to GameStop's long, negative behavior toward the PC platform and independent games," said Blind Mind Studios. "We would never have signed onto distribution through GameStop, and being forced into this situation has only made it worse for us. We feel GameStop cannot serve as the leader of a true competitor in the digital distribution market." Blind Mind adds that they're trying to ensure that automatic updates for the game will continue through Impulse. If not, note that any patches they release are still compatible with the Impulse version. They're also looking to create their own automatic updater to streamline the process. If you want to purchase Star Ruler, you'll still be able to pick it up through GamersGate, Steam, Direct2Drive and Desura. |
