Starhawk Making Of VideoAuthor: William Usher

There’s not much else to the headline because the video Sony’s Santa Monica Studios released is completely and entirely straightforward. It’s less of a typical promotional trailer and more like a promise of quality standards, which is something I think the industry has been lacking in as of late.
The new making of video offers up very little new gameplay footage of the PS3 exclusive, Starhawk, but the team does talk extensively about their process in aiming to make the game perfect at what it sets out to do: provide endless multiplayer fun. Warhawk always seemed like it aimed at the middle-of-the-road kind of market…not really trying to be triple-A and not really trying hard to come out of the single or double-A standards. In some ways, it seems like the Santa Monica team is acknowledging where Starhawk and the -hawk series stands and they’re just trying to make sure that they focus on maintaining and retaining that core audience. It’s also nice to hear that they have “Hate Sessions”…I liked that. Too often developers seem to think that every thing they add in a game is wonderful and top notch and that always isn’t the case. Now I can’t say that Starhawk alleviates this problem entirely, but if the devs know what works and what doesn’t and focus only on what works then it’s usually all the better for the gamer. You can keep up to date on Sony’s multiplayer third-person shooter by paying a visit to the Official Website. Starhawk is due out exclusively for the PS3 in 2012. |
