Starhawk Patch Launches Today, Adds Two Free Maps

The Starhawk universe is about to get a little bit bigger as developer LightBox Interactive announces the impending release of update 1.03, set to add all kinds of tweaks and two new maps, all for free, to this third-person strategy shooter for PlayStation 3 later today.

LightBox President Dylan Jobe posted all of the details on Starhawk 1.03 on the PlayStation Blog earlier today, saying that the patch is due to drop at 2 p.m. Central Time.

Along with player-requested features, the usual bug fixes and an increased level cap, the update provides two new maps for online intergalactic battle set on the planet of Cypress.

According to Jobe, the team at LightBox paid careful attention to what players have been saying about Starhawk over the past several months and incorporated those sentiments into the new maps’ design.

“We really wanted to craft a new world that was more lush, more green, with lots of plant and huge trees and shallow water that you could drive and run through,” Jobe said. “Players wanted to see more coer and places for troops to hide. They also wanted to see some pre-built structures that you could go inside. Cypress: Collider and Cypress: Origin have all of those things.”

Jobe stressed that, while more structures are present, they will be sparse as Starhawk continues to take advantage of its “build and battle” system, which lets players air-drop in their own structures and machinery.

The 1.03 patch also makes a truckload of changes, fixes and tweaks, all of which can be viewed on the PlayStation Blog post linked above.
