It was announced earlier this week that the folks over at Lightbox Interactive would be making the multiplayer portion of Starhawk available as a standalone title via PSN soon. Well, we now know that “soon” is next Tuesday, that the single player campaign will also be made available free of charge for Plus Subscribers, and that a new patch will add three new modes, five new maps and a ton of additional tweaks.
If you plan on visiting Lightbox President Dylan Jobe’s recent PlayStation Blog post, then you better have your reading glasses ready. The guy drops a massive amount of details surrounding the future of third-person strategy space shooter, Starhawk, all of which I’m going to summarize for you here. Starting next Tuesday, everyone will have three ways to get their Starhawk goodness. First up is the full digital version of the game (single and multiplayer), going for $39.99. Second is the multiplayer only edition, which can be had for a mere $19.99. Finally there is the single player campaign edition which, at first, will only be available free of charge for PlayStation Plus members. Jobe also teases something else “very tasty” for Plus members, promising another announcement in the near future. I’m assuming the single player campaign will be made available as a standalone title for non-Plus members in the future, but that has not yet been confirmed. Along with the three new ways to dive into Starhawk, update 1.4 will also be made available next Tuesday, featuring three new game modes, five new “small” maps and a long bulleted list of gameplay updates that can be viewed in the PS blog post. That’s where you’ll also find information about the upcoming Starhawk MLG tourney, and a teaser image for an upcoming bit of build and battle DLC. Can you believe that’s the abbreviated version of Lightbox’s new announcements? It’s quite a bit to digest but, at its core, we’re looking at three ways to play Starhawk digitally, free single player for Plus, five new maps and three new modes. Look for all of that to drop when the PlayStation Network updates next Tuesday. As a reminder, all Starhawk DLC, including the upcoming 1.4 patch, is free of charge. And now, check out the latest trailer for those three new modes. Back to top
