Tomb Raider Will Make A Trip To Mac Later This Year
Lara Croft has had quite the adventurous life, raiding tombs all over the world, visiting forgotten palaces, fighting ancient evils and uncovering priceless treasures. Now she's gearing up from another expedition into the unknown as the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider ventures into the untamed wilderness known as Mac.
That's right, Tomb Raider will be launching on Mac, bringing Feral Interactive's critically-praised action adventure game to a whole new group of gamers. With a release date set for “later this year,” Lara's first great adventure will finally be playable on every current gaming platform that doesn't rhyme with Mii Q.
Croft's most recent journey has been an interesting one. It seems like more than a few gamers fell head over heels in love with Lara's new origin story before going on to murder countless woodland creatures. No matter how you look at it, Tomb Raider falls into a niche market of sorts, certainly unlikely to compete with the likes of modern-day shooters and sports games in terms of numbers sold. And while figures looked pretty strong for this latest Tomb Raider, publisher Square Enix appeared to think otherwise, stating that Lara's latest expedition failed to meet their sales expectations. Always the confusing-as-hell company, however, that didn't stop them from announcing that they'd still be pushing for a sequel.
Either way, maybe Tomb Raider's upcoming trip to Mac will net the series some additional fans and help ease Square Enix's mind.
“We're excited to bring Tomb Raider to Mac, and in doing so introduce a new audience to Lara Croft's original story,” said Square Enix Head of Product Development Darrell Gallagher. “This is one more step on the road to achieving everything we wanted with the game.”
I can only assume that “everything we wanted” is fancy talk for “make more cheddar.”
Either way, Lara Croft has had a long and storied life in gaming, so it'll be nice to see even more players get to experience its roots.
“We all know Lara Croft as a coolly self-assured adventurer, but she wasn't always that way,” said Feral Interactive Managing Director David Stephen. “Tomb Raider does an amazing job of tracing the character's evolution from amateur explorer to battle-hardened survivor. It's a tense, but intensely exhilarating journey.”
