Tomb Raider PAX Video Features 13 Minutes Of Raw Gameplay

So that whole rape talk thing that happened after the E3 presentation of Tomb Raider is finally behind us...right? Well, hopefully yeah. Anyway, let's talk about the actual game...Tomb Raider. After surviving through a dangerous cave, Lara finds herself out and about in the jungle on a small island near Japan. The gameplay footage focuses on Lara's survival skills, hunting skills and eating skills.

The game doesn't look half bad. I'm not entirely fond of the hand-holding quick-time events, but so long as the QTEs are kept to a minimum and it doesn't overshadow the actual gameplay then Tomb Raider just might carve itself out a nice little niche in the third-person action genre.

You can check it out in the video footage below, courtesy of GamesRadar from PAX Prime.

Most people are praising the game's cinematic approach to gameplay and I find it to be one of the game's strong points. Hopefully, as mentioned above, the QTE platforming is kept to a minimum and actual hardcore platforming becomes a frequent element of the game considering that next to Lara's short-shorts and big breasts, the hardcore platforming was a staple of the Tomb Raider franchise.

Another thing I hope the game stays mindful of is body count. If this is supposed to be an over-the-top action-thriller romp then it doesn't matter and Lara can rack up a Stallone/Schwarzenegger kill count. However, if they're trying to keep it realistic, ensuring that she's not killing off trained mercenaries and life-hardened pirates every two minutes might be a focus of the team if they're hoping to maintain some sense of character continuity.

So far the game looks all right and it appears it could go one of many different ways depending on its design.

Tomb Raider is set for release on March 5th, 2013 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
