In three weeks, High Moon Studios will release the Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, sequel to 2010's War for Cybertron. Starting today, PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers alike can go hands-on with the game via a new demo.
The single-player side of the demo features two missions from the campaign. In the first, Bumblebee and the other Autobots must defend their ship from a Decepticon assault. It's mostly a shooter mission, with some occasional driving mixed in. The second mission, starring Vortex, is less linear. Players switch between Vortex's helicopter and robot modes in an effort to wipe out Autobots defending a bridge. If these missions sound familiar, it's because they were mentioned in our preview.
The multiplayer sample gives players access to the character customizer. They'll choose a character class and then build a personalized bot with different parts and cosmetic options. Once you've made your own bot, you can play them in the Team Deathmatch and Conquest modes.
High Moon is hoping that the demo will yield them some helpful information. They'll look at the data from multiplayer to determine if, for example, a class is underplayed or overpowered. The studio is also soliciting players' advice in tweaking the game. If you have any strong opinions on the demo, shoot them a note at their Twitter account.
Today's announcement didn't say anything about a pre-launch demo for the PC. While the game will hit the PC at the same time as consoles, development for that version was outsourced to another company, Mercenary Technology. Mercenary seems to have started work on the port after the console development was already underway so it's possible they don't have enough time to make the demo.
