With only weeks until Transformers: Fall of Cybertron's launch, High Moon Studios has begun talking about the game's multiplayer in earnest. They've sent out a trailer providing an overview of the game's online features.

Unlike War for Cybertron, Fall doesn't let you play the campaign online with friends. Instead, you'll have to get your co-op jollies through a new Escalation Mode. Escalation is sort of a "Horde mode": a team of players battles progressively harder waves of enemies and unlocks weapon upgrades in the process.

Fall will also ship with competitive multiplayer modes playable on 10 maps. The modes weren't listed in the video. Presumably the standard game types from War like Conquest, King of the Hill and Deathmatch will all make a return.

For multiplayer, players will be able to build their own Autobot or Decepticon. The game features an almost MMO-like character customization interface. After choosing one of the four character classes as a basic template, you can individualize your character with hundreds of parts. You can also pick your paint job.

Personally I'm more interested in the single-player narrative of Cybertron because of a certain fire-breathing T-Rex. I'm not sure how much time I'd actually invest in another Horde mode. However, I'm not going to turn my nose at a multiplayer offering that gives me some extra bang for my buck.
