With today's barrage of zombie-shooter titles flooding the news stream, it's probably nice to get a little something-something that has nothing whatsoever to do with the cannibal eating undead.

Anyway, Hi-Rez Studios released some new patch notes about the recently updated closed beta for their semi-free-to-play first-person shooter, Tribes: Ascend. The notes includes new additions to the CBT, including better movement mechanics and team deathmatch.

In addition to adding team deathmatch to two of the maps on the game, additional tweaks were also implemented such as the Orbital Strike, which is similar to the Tactical Strike save it takes more credits to use and has a wider radius of damage to spread around. Reductions have also been made to the required tokens to unlock additional classes.

One of the more promising additions to the game is the new matchmaking system, keyed in to help newbies pair up and pair off against other newbies, instead of having new-players going against competition crazy pros.

Additional changes have also been made to help balance out the gameplay a bit more and to fix certain glitches, such as the one where you would decelerate at certain points while skiing.

You can join in on the action right now while the game is in closed beta. It's kind of fun if you enjoy jet-packing around and then skiing down a hill at blinding speeds while firing a grenade launcher at some guy trying to fly away with your flag.
