Start your design engines, the race to unleash the first UE4 game for the PlayStation 4 is now underway as Epic Games has announced that the development kit for the PlayStation 4 is now up, out and available. To celebrate they've unleashed the “Elemental Demo” running on the PS4's hardware.
The UE4 demo showcases the power of Epic's latest engine and its capabilities for rendering innumerable particle effects, global illumination, real-time color and shader manipulation as well as dynamic physics effects. You can check it out in the tech demo below.
I still don't get why Epic's VP Mark Reins said that the above UE4 tech demo would make The Samaritan UE3 demo look feeble by comparison. I kindly disagree, as The Samaritan still resonates strongly and is one of the best tech demos ever released in the history of tech demos...so yeah.
Anyway, Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic commented about the availability of Unreal Engine 4's tools for the PlayStation 4, saying...
“Being on the ground floor of Sony Computer Entertainment's Tools and Middleware program is part of our long-term commitment to Unreal Engine 4 developers, and we’re excited to help teams ship fantastic new games for PlayStation 4,” ... “Unreal Engine 4 has been built from the ground up to take full advantage of high-end next-generation hardware capabilities.”
All that's left now is for Microsoft to finally announce their console, and then Epic can say that the UE4 is 100% next-gen ready for Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. At least it seems as if Epic is already primed and geared up for whatever it is MS throws their way.
