Valve Didn't Meet With Apple

Last week, a rumor went around that Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Valve head Gabe Newell at the developer's headquarters. It was a juicy rumor that led to a lot of fun speculation but in a new interview Newell denied that such a meeting ever took place.

"We actually, we all sent mail to each other, going, 'Who's Tim Cook meeting with? Is he meeting with you? I'm not meeting with Tim Cook,'" Newell told Seven Day Cooldown. "So we're... it's one of those rumors that was stated so factually that we were actually confused."

"No one here was meeting with Tim Cook or with anybody at Apple that day. I wish we were! We have a long list of things we'd love to see Apple do to support games and gaming better. But no, we didn't meet with Tim Cook. He seems like a smart guy, but I've never actually met him."

The rumored meeting took place around the same time that Valve posted wanted ads for hardware engineers. Thus, a lot of people began wondering if the two companies were planning to join forces to build some new gaming hardware - perhaps the rumored Steam Box console. But yeah, all those wacky dreams are dead now. Thanks a lot, Gabe!

It's not hard to believe that Apple and Valve would team up in some fashion. After all, Valve has been a huge boon to Mac gaming. Several games on Steam, including some of Valve's biggest hits, are now available on both the PC and Mac. Steam also support cross-platform play between PC and Mac gamers on select titles. That seems to be the extent of the companies' relationship for now, though.
